A Taste of 7 Corners

It has been a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl to travel around the world, and seeing as it's gonna take me a bit more time to do that, one other way to get a glimpse of the world is through food. Luckily, my Aunt invited me and my family to a lunch buffet at 7 Corners at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Ortigas with some of our relatives. The night before, I opted to read on reviews about the restaurant and I thought I may as well do one after the experience. I try to expect nothing from these kind of buffet offerings for me to fully appreciate the whole thing. Since  my cousins and I had buffet experiences before, we always take the time to savor the ambiance and of coarse the taste of the food, and I have to say I can give 7 Corners about 6 out of 10 stars. The restaurant was as elegant as it can be judging by the table setting and how their dishes are laid out. They have 7 stations varying from Western, Oriental, Mediterranean/Indian, Italian, Japanese, fruits and a hefty lay of dessert. The food was OK but not that great. I loved the variation of Makis served that day and we all enjoyed the Steak that's for sure!!! I have pictures of my individual plates below and some other reviews on what I had.

picture first before coming inside the restaurant
We had two tables reserved for our party, one for the "kids" (me and my cousins) and the other for our parents or we call them "tanders" (a Tagalog word short for 'matanda', which means 'old' in English). Our tables were situated at the end of the restaurant so we get the view of the whole room.

 BUFFET, SET, GO!
Plate 1. JAPANESE
I had four kinds of Maki on my plate (California, Crab Stick & Cream Cheese are the only ones I could remember cause they didn't have individual labels on), a Salmon slice and Nigirizushi.
Plate 2. FRUITS
I have to say that the fruits were really fresh! I had a few grapes (with seeds!!! which my brother and I thought were seedless! huh!), melon slices, watermelon and for the first time ever, I tasted a Dragon Fruit! (It has a very mild taste, not too sweet or sour and it has a strawberry like texture when your eating it)
Plate 3. WESTERN
Rib-Eye Steak with Mash Potatoes. Period. This was the highlight of the day for me, for us really!!! I had two servings cause it was just so yummy! I like my steak well done cause i've tried meduim-rare and I know that it's easier to cut into it but i'm just not a fan.
Plate 4. INDIAN/MEDITERRANEAN
I had a vegetarian dish, some Naan bread and Papadum cracker. I didn't really try any curry that time cause i'm pretty scared for my tummy.
Plate 5. ITALIAN

Since i've read that they have this 'Make Your Own Pizza' in the Italian Station, I ordered a pizza for me and my cousins to share since I knew I couldn't finish a whole plate myself. We had an all meat pizza, half of it with pineapples since I like my pizza with those. The pizza was OK, nothing that we haven't tasted before but, I like that it was a thin crust since we were all pretty stuffed by the time we had it.
And of coarse, last but not least, the dessert plate! And I definitely made room for it! I chose melon, strawberry and mango flavored ice cream and various toppings like marshmallows, chocolate chips and nuts and made it into a Teppanyaki Ice Cream where they have this cooled surface where they mix it all up. I didn't really like the ice cream cause the 3 flavors doesn't really go well together and the flavors kinda tasted artificial for me like they weren't made from fresh fruits at all and we only had 4 flavors to choose from, there wasn't even vanilla or chocolate so that was disappointing.

Plate 6. DESSERT
Together with the Teppanyaki Ice Cream, I also tried their Creme Brulee which tasted like Leche Flan to me with the addition of the torched sugar on top. I also tasted the various mini cakes with my cousins since we were really full but we wanted to try them all. I wasn't also a fan of the mini cakes cause they were all made from dark chocolates and too bitter for me.
Overall it was a great experience. I tasted new dishes from other countries and enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to trying on other buffet meals on different hotels in the future. After the meal we got to take a few photos as souvenirs, so check them out.

This lunch was actually a joint celebration of Daddy Emil, Ate Miles and Ate Bot's birthday as well as Ate Dae's despedida since she's heading to Australia the 1st week of February and will only be back in time for Ate Miles and Kuya Dado's wedding on March.
I can't even explain how full I am that day but it was all good. The most important thing for me was I got to spend a day with my family and we all had fun eating and talking at the same time. We may have been in a bit of a rush cause we were still heading home to Quezon but it was all worth it. One more family bonding done, definitely more to go! :D

Cainta Week End

One of my closest cousin, Ate Miles is getting married on March and I'm very honored to be one of her bridesmaid along with Via & her youngest sister, Ate Bot, her younger sister, Ate Dae would be the candles while Ate Aizza would be the veil. With that title, dresses of coarse are in order. Our measurements were already taken last year and a few weeks ago (January 21, 2012) we had our first fitting. I can't really post any pictures of the dress because we really didn't want to give any spoilers about what we were gonna wear so you all just have to wait till I make an entry about it in a few months. All I can say about my dress is, I Need To Loose Weight & Fast! It's not that it doesn't fit, it does but that's it..it fits with no allowance whatsoever and I may need just a little more room..I'm determined to eat a lot the day of the wedding!!! Anyway, I've already started exercising last week, jogging every afternoon around the perimeter of my University's Freedom Park and I still have a month to go so let's hope and pray i can keep it up and not give in to my cravings!
After the fitting, Ate Aizza, Ate Dae and Ate Bot accompanied me to Robinsons Place and venture on Shoe Shopping for the wedding. The theme for the shoes is Gold so we went to People are People and tried the pumps that Ate Bot was recommending me but it was just to high for me and I was a bit wobbly while walking so we went to Payless and eventually settled for the gold peep toe that Ate Dae and Via bought which is about 3 inches and lucky me, 30% off! Like any Payless visit that we've had it always ends up with try outs galore, the attendant told us that if we purchase 3 pairs of shoes we actually get another 10% for all the pairs, I ended up buying another pair of black flats and Ate Dae also bought another pair.

After buying the shoes, Ate Dae, Ate Bot & I went to Trinoma to meet up with Renan (Ate Bot's boyfriend) so i decided to text my friend Kim to meet me there as well since she lives near the area. My cousins got me to try Gong Cha Milk Tea at last and their Pearl Milk Tea taste pretty good but i'm still partial to Moon Leaf Tea Shop's PMT. When Kimmy arrived we went for coffee and sadly I forgot to take a picture with her. Darn. Before going home, we stopped by the Super Market to get our supplies for the night. Ate Aizza decided for us to have a girl's night at her place, we had a few drinks and chips.
The next day I was suppose to go home since my agenda for the weekend was done. But then my cousins were very adamant for me to stay and so Ate Dae, Ate Bot and Via (coaxed out by my bullying) made plans on heading to Katipunan. We went to Moon Leaf Katipunan since i've wanted to see their branch. I got a Pearl Milk Tea as per usual.
Me & My PMT

We had dinner at Flaming Wings ordering their Chicken Tenders and had their Wicked Oreos for dessert.

I'm very thankful for my cousins for always having me at Cainta, this weekend was just one of the few i've shared with them through the years and i'm sure there would be lots more in the future. :D
